Over its 40 year history the IWSC has attracted some of the most influential individuals in the wine and spirit industry to act as its annual Presdent, these include Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Miguel Torres, Gina Gallo, Robert Mondavi, Wolf Blass and Sir Anthony Greener.
Judging The competition uses the most rigorous judging process with all entries blind tasted by panels with specific experience of the region, variety or product. All products are tasted in groups divided by variety, region and vintage as necessary and the judges are served products in number glasses and never see the bottles which they are tasting. The judging is overseen by the competitions independent Judging and Technical Committee which is headed by David Wrigley MW. The competition exists all year round with its own staff and cellar in Surrey, England. This enables the competition to stagger its judging through the year ensuring current vintages can be entered and therefore commercial advantage made of awards received. Awards Awards are made on a points system and trophies are presented in selected categories. Technical analysis is carried out on Gold, Gold (Best in Class), Silver (Best in Class) award winning wines, spirits and liqueurs to ensure that all products are technically sound. Trophies are then awarded at the wine and spirit industry's most prestigious awards evening held at London's Guildhall in November. To book for this years banquet click here
